Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four initial break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
