Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
